Beyond these four economic centers, development is marginal and poverty is still prevalent despite government efforts. Consequently the vast majority of South Africans are poor. However, key marginal areas have experienced rapid growth recently.
Climate: South Africa has a generally temperate climate, due in part to being surrounded by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans on three sides. In contrast, the eastern coastline is lush and well-watered, which produces a climate similar to the tropics.

Useful Tips: Gift giving is not the norm in business. Dress well in public, it will be expected by your South African host. South Africans love success stories and many admire Americans. Use titles and surnames to address people.
Credit Cards: Throughout Africa, cards with the Visa logo are most readily recognised, although MasterCard is also accepted in many places. Whatever card you use, don't rely totally on plastic, as computer or telephone breakdowns can leave you stranded. Always have cash or travellers cheques too.
